In official action during the August 13, 2024 regular school board meeting, County Judge Executive Steve Mays swore in Gregory Stewart Brandenburg as the first Police Chief of the Lee County Schools Police Department.
Chief Brandenburg will serve as SRO at Lee County Elementary School and will be a presence at extracurricular events and at LCMHS as needed. Chief Brandenburg will work closely with current LCMHS SRO John Marshall to provide safe and secure buildings at all district sites.
Safe Schools Coordinator Phillip Angel said the district now has the "...best school resource officer team in the state." Superintendent Shuler added that the district has now met the state mandate that requires an SRO at each campus location. He further stated, "The Board, Mr. Angel, and I have been working to put an SRO in place at Lee County Elementary Schools for several months. This was not only to meet the state requirement, but to help ensure a secure environment for ALL Lee County students. Safety is always our first concern."
Chief Brandenburg's first day on the job will be August 14.
